About Lisi

Lisi Zhang is a Chinese-American writer, columnist, and retired legal professional. Born in Beijing and raised by the scenic West Lake in Hangzhou, she came of age during the Cultural Revolution, enduring social upheaval, family separations, and the collapse of long-held values. In 1986, with thirty dollars, an old leather suitcase, and unshakable resolve, she arrived in America to rebuild her life.
Her debut memoir on the Cultural Revolution, published in 2015, resonated with Chinese readers worldwide. Since 2016, she has been a columnist for World Journal, the leading Chinese-language news outlet overseas, where her long-running column Law and Humanity blends legal insight with human stories. She is the author of two volumes in the When Law Meets Life series, each story revealing the resilience and humanity behind legal struggles in real life.
Through memoir and commentary, Lisi bridges cultures, generations, and disciplines, weaving together personal history, professional insight, and universal truths. Her work invites readers to reflect, connect, and find inspiration in the stories that shape us all.
